Build Management Tools
What is The Freshwater Trust doing here?
The Freshwater Trust (TFT) is using our patented analytic tools in the Colorado basin to uncover insights that can help partners and future conservation groups manage water rights portfolios more effectively and make data-supported decisions about those portfolios. Many of our current projects focus on the Colorado West Slope region.
We're also working with several Colorado municipalities to analyze water quality issues, such as rising water temperatures. By using our analytic tools to run these analyses, we can create different virtual models that show stakeholders which actions will deliver the most significant environmental benefit at the lowest possible cost.
As each regional area has different water quality goals, we can adjust our models to provide options that best align with those goals, financial concerns, and additional criteria. Each municipality can then use these analyses to guide the development and implementation of water quality programs.
Why is this work important?
The Colorado River brings water to seven U.S. states and parts of Mexico. Its path irrigates 5 million acres of agricultural land, serves 30 Native American tribes, and provides more than 40 million people with drinking water.
However, the water is at risk of running out due to climate change and human activity.
Using our patented technologies, including BasinScout® and other modeling software, TFT can help partners determine the most effective environmental actions to address these water scarcity issues.
There is a lot at stake in protecting the Colorado River, and many people are involved in these decisions. Unfortunately, not all stakeholders agree on how to solve the problems.
As a non-partial third party, TFT can help these decision-makers find common ground by providing virtual models and unbiased information to show the most efficient and cost-effective conservation options that provide win-win scenarios for the economy, the people, and the environment.
