Water Protection
What is The Freshwater Trust doing here?
Food and water are essential to life. The Freshwater Trust (TFT) is helping organizations in Colorado protect water resources and production lands—ensuring our rivers run clean and clear and that farming communities can produce food. Colorado’s limited water supplies are the focus of intense conservation efforts by water conservancy districts, land trusts, water trusts, and local governments. But keeping water in rivers and using it to grow food on the land is no small task. With drought intensifying, demand to move water increasing, and environmental conditions worsening, knowing where to begin or what actions to prioritize can be daunting. TFT has been helping communities launch and lead important conservation efforts that protect water resources in eastern Colorado for over a decade.
Why is this important?
By delivering analytical tools that quantify the economic benefits of water to local communities—as well as the cost to those communities of water exports—TFT can help groups prioritize water protection projects and identify effective mitigation strategies when transfers remove water from farming communities and important ecosystems.
How can you support these efforts?
One key way to support our efforts is through donations. TFT ensures that every dollar you give delivers measurable results that will make a difference.
